Serena Williams by Silvia Carrara

Serena Williams, one of the greatest tennis players of all time, is considered the third best woman player ever by the official rankings, the best server in the history of the game and the G.O.A.T. in women’s tennis by the general public.

Not only did Williams win 4 Olympic gold medals and the greatest amount of Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, but she also won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title while she was eight weeks pregnant. Moreover, she is the oldest ever Grand Slam champion and the oldest player to be ranked world number one.

Serena has achieved everything that she could ever have pursued in the sport, yet she is more than a tennis player. In fact, she is an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a designer and an overall great businesswoman.

She launched her own clothing line, S by Serena, her own jewellery line, and she’s starting to venture out into the beauty world. She has her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, and she invests in companies that embrace multiculturalism and empower women. As a matter of fact, 78% of Serena Ventures' portfolio comprises companies started by female CEOs and people of color. That is why, she decided to step back from tennis in order to focus on venture capital investing.

Her drive and desire to be inclusive are inspiring to young generations. When she learned that female and people of color-driven companies were being underfunded, she decided to take matter into her own hands and personally invest in them. Her greatest goal is to spread awareness on companies that embrace diversity and creativity. She is a model to follow and we can expect so many great things from her in the years to come.
