Negin Mirsalehi, a 35-year-old Dutch-Iranian blogger and social media influencer, has created alongside her fiancé Maurits Stibbe one of the most popular hair-care and beauty brands in the market, Gisou.
Beekeepers by generations, her family’s love for bees and desire to protect them and celebrate them has been passed down to her.
Seeing first-hand how happy working with bees made her father sparked her own curiosity and interest in becoming a beekeeper.
Her mother, hairdresser in training, unhappy with the haircare products on the market, started experimenting with the leftover honey they had available to care for her hair and, after years of testing, finally succeeded in developing the perfect honey-infused haircare recipe using fresh honey from her husband’s garden.
Apart from being a beekeeper, Negin has always been fascinated by fashion and beauty, and has been a social media influencer and blogger since 2010. On her social media platforms, she was always being complimented and asked about her hair and how she cared for them, which encouraged her to share the benefits of the hair products her mother created with the world. She made the decision to start her very own haircare company using the best components from the Mirsalehi Bee Garden, and she finally launched Gisou in 2015.
The same wish her family had of keeping bees protected is the philosophy behind her beauty brand. Their priority is the wellbeing of the bees above everything else, they place a high priority on bee welfare, supporting their natural activity and interaction, and only take excess honey when necessary. They make sure that their production cycles coincide with the time of year when their primary components are harvested.
Negin is not only the founder of the brand, but she is also one of the beekeepers that responsibly harvest the primary components for all Gisou products, working alongside her father. Together, they gather honey from hives sustainably from the Mirsalehi Bee Garden.
Since launching their Honey Infused Hair Oil, their bestselling product, the main ingredient, their family’s honey, has served as a model for the creation of all other Gisou products. The brand has now expanded as to include many more beauty products that go beyond hair. Negin’s desire to use the benefits of honey to improve skin’s complexion and enhance natural looks has led them to launch skincare and beauty products and they are working on creating many more.
